Poems and drawings, ca. 1775.

Manuscript contains four separate poems, three in Spanish and one in Latin. All extol the virtues of Father Antonio Margil de Jesus, who entered the Franciscan order in 1673 and for 53 years served in Yucatan, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Texas. He established a number of missions in Texas, returning in 1722 to the College of Zacatecas in Mexico. Larranaga was a native of Zacatecas. The poems, apparently never published, precede his published work by 14 years. In 1788 Larranaga planned to publish a longer work on Margil. However, even though a prospectus for the work exists, it was never published. Two drawings in color relate to the College of Zacatecas and to the moral virtues of Margil.
